“TV you can make on the backlot, but for the big screen, the real dramas, you have to do it where God put the West.” – John Wayne. When John Wayne said these words, he thought of the scenery  surrounding the Red Cliffs Lodge in Utah.

In the late 40s the legendary John Ford discovered the rugged beauty of Moab’s Canyonlands and filmed the 1st of many movies here. The first major motion pictures filmed in the Moab area were set at the Red Cliffs Ranch. Wagon Master, Rio Grande, Son of Chochise, Warlock, Commancheros, Cheyenne Autumn, and many more used the ranch and its magnificent scenery for filming. John Wayne, Maureen O’Hara, Ben Johnson, Rock Hudson, Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn, Lee Marvin, Richard Widmark, James Stewart, and Richard Boone have all worked on location here at the Red Cliffs Ranch.

Last weekend I spent a few days at Red Cliffs Lodge. This is a magical place,  with beautiful scenery that sets an epic backdrop for a wedding. As a matter of fact I’m so impressed with this venue, if you plan your wedding at the Red Cliffs Lodge and you hire me as your photographer, I will give you a free album.

Hey, I’m Hardy.

Just a little about the tall German behind the camera… In 2003, I followed my heart and moved from Germany to the United States to be with my sweet and tenacious wife Tammy.

I’m a true fan of Nutella, but only the one made in Germany (because there is a difference). For some reason I love the way it feels to write with a fountain pen, but I also have a minor technology obsession, especially if it has a glowing Apple, or the red dot with the name Leica on it.

Feel free to contact me at hardy@hardyklaholdphotography.com or call me at 720.936.8076 if you’d like to talk about my photos or the differences between U.S. and German Nutella.
